About the issue

Canada Post has been issuing stamps for the Christmas and holiday season every year since 1964.

The stamp issue and Official First Day Cover depict the Holy Family. According to the Gospel of Matthew, an angel announced to Joseph in a dream that his betrothed, Mary, carried a child by the Holy Spirit and that he should name the baby Jesus. Fleeing to Egypt to escape the wrath of King Herod, the Holy Family eventually settled in Nazareth, in the district of Galilee. Joseph is considered by some to be the patron saint of adoptive and foster parents – and is also the primary Catholic patron saint of Canada.

About the design

Both the 2024 stamp and Official First Day Cover are illustrated in rich, vibrant colours – the stamp, showing Mary and Joseph looking lovingly at the infant Jesus, takes prominence. A star is visible overhead, which was said to announce the birth of Jesus.
